Invisalign is a great option if you want to straighten your teeth but are not a fan of traditional braces. Invisalign uses a series of removable, clear plastic aligners that fit over your upper and lower teeth. The aligners gradually move your teeth into the correct position, and then you change them for the next set in the sequence.
Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks, then changed for the next set. They should be worn for 22 hours each day and removed only when you’re eating or drinking anything other than water. You can also remove them when brushing or flossing your teeth. A new set of aligners will be provided by your dentist every six weeks or so until treatment is complete. Your dentist will tell you how often to schedule follow-up visits, but they’re usually required every four to six weeks.
Invisalign treatment typically takes 12 to 18 months, which is shorter than most orthodontic treatments using traditional braces.
